As Five Element practitioners we are interested in the regulatory movement of qi and right relationship of heavenearth for our patients. We have a number of considerations when deciding on treatment and of course one important aspect is the manifestation of the Elements and the functions of the Officials. Although the CF is central to our paradigm, we are not practising ‘CF’ acupuncture. We need at times to address other Officials outside the CF in order to restore right relationships.
One way (where appropriate through clinical reasoning) can be the use of crossing points which have the potential to reach more than one Official with one needle. For example, Sp6 yin jiao Three Yin Crossing is the meeting point for the yin meridians of the leg: Spleen, Liver and Kidney.
In order to affect all three meridians it is important that you needle the point with the needle straight, otherwise the point will revert to the quality of the Spleen channel.
